How to detect Faulty Alternator.

1. To check and detect the alternator and battery using digital volts amp tester
2. If the voltage read below 12.5 with ignitions engine is on indicates low charging
3. As with engine starts the voltage should read @ 13.5 volts to 14.5v.
4. During at night headlights will becomes dimmer and dimmer.
5. Power window becomes weaker and slow up and down.
6. Drop gear from 4-3-2-D is not smooth and jerks
7. lack of power.
8. U will noticed shadow of indicator such as abs,handbrakes indicator lights up on and off
9. No horn
10. No radio.

So from all the above symptoms dont be surprised that u might had a engine failure while Driving due to FAULTY ALTERNATORS. As what u need to replaced at once.....

I would like to share some most important things that most spectrans or even the workshop had mislead of important to inspect or replaced the conditions of TIMING BELT Covers Assy for Kia Spectra.

It comes full kit for upper,center unit and bottom unit.
Timing covers are also used in conjunction with timing belts. In these applications the front of the engine will typically be sealed with oil seals that are set into the block or head where the crank and cam shafts extend.

 Timing cover gaskets are also often used with timing belt covers, though they are designed to keep contaminants away from the belt. If an oil leak develops at a crank or cam shaft seal, oil may contaminate the timing belt and require its replacement. Oil may also contaminate the cover gasket, causing it to swell and become unusable. In these cases , if the Timing Belt is contaminate with debris and oil slips of Timing Belt will occurs. So pleased be aware how important the covers thats also acts as a seal gasket.

Here are some tips and useful procedure where actions sb taken:-

1. Find a suitable and trusted workshop if ure facing with Timing Belt faulty.
2. Dont ever relayed all on the mechanic decision.
3. As most workshop will deliberately will ask u to replaced used engine
4. As for my advice its more cheaper to replaced all the internal damage parts with ori new parts
5. Ask the workshop to dismantle all the engine internal parts that are really severely damage
6. Check any hairline crack on the cylinder head block if so need to replaced
7. Check and replaced new Piston and Piston ring
8. Replaced ori gasket set , bearing, con rod etc etc....
9. Replace ORI Dayco Timing Belt full kit that warranty 100k km

This is to informed all members to take serious precaution on when u send for Timing Belt replacement
What u need to inspect is the wear and tear that occurs to ur

• Check conditions of the CAMSHAFT PULLEY ASSY.
• Check ur CRANKSHAFT PULLEY assy any sign of hairline crack
• Inspect any engine oil leaks via the oil seals
• Replaced the water pump and Gasket
• Check the water pump pipe of rust and crack
• Used red,white or blue (Motul) coolant instead of cheap ones (normally Green)
• Send to a certified technichian to do the Timing Belt setting
• Inspect or replaced the conditions of Timing Belt cover on upper,center and lower part

                                      Timing Belt cover should be replaced if crack as to prevent unwanted debris,water and oil sips thru.

Inspect conditions of water pump pipe for rust and crack. Comes in one pc

Crack due to wear and tear Crankshaft Pulley, Must replaced at once

Tips on buying used kia spectra

This apply to all newbies who are looking forward to buy used Kia Spectra LS model.here are some useful tip before u decided to choosed the perfect car.

• Pls choosed at least  model yr of make from 2004-2007
• Fr year 2002-2003 model is considered the car is almost 10-11 years
• Pls check condition of gear box system any leaking via auto oil sump pan
• Pls check condition of driveshaft as test drive should be perform.
• Check any leaking via yr engine oil
• Check radiator,cooant condition.
• Hear the timing belt section any unusual non smooth engine running.
• Examine yr e.mounting condtion, vibration occurs via dashboard
• Check interior underneath yr carpet , wet water leaking etc
• Check body alignment incase its an accident car
• Check condition of yr brake pedal
• Check ur air cond system cooling point etc...

Pls  take several steps when replacing Timing Belt.
What u need is must genuine parts as I would recomended Ori Dayco belt that comes in full kit:-

• High temp Dayco timing belt :- its suitabe fr our weather where it can withstand extreme heat
• Heavy duty type tesioner bearing :- as it will fully auto tension ur t.belt to its max to prevent slips
• Idler pulley bearing :-  function to align the belt accordingly
• 3 oil seals :- to prevent engine oil from leaking
• Dayco alternator belt:- to run our alternator n water pump assy.
• Dayco air cond belt :- to generates our power steering motor & air cond compressor
• To check yr 2 pcs CAMSHAFTS pulley :- tooth rib is in good condition ,no crack or chipping
• To replaced or inspect ur CRANKSHAFT pulley assy :- most will had crack pulley.
• To replaced and inspect TIMING BELT COVER :- sb in accumulate condition ,no crack.
• To replaced  water pump 

All  from the aboved  tips is the correct way to replaced Timing Belt as it will severe damage ur engine if unproper care. Used genuine timing belt only!!

Why my power steering fluid level low.?

Salam spectran,

For ur info regarding p.steering fluid n brake fluid level is low from maximum.
Power steering fluid:-

1. If u hear a roaring noise when turning the steering wheel.
2. Examined n check level of power steering fluid, it sb at Max level if at min indicates a leaks.
3. Normally all spectrans will face this problems as its due to wear and tear process.
4. Leaks usually occurs at the power steering pressure hose via upper or lower part
5. It also can leaks thru the power steering motor pun where its oil seal, o rings had crack.

Pls take etxtra precaution if not replaced the said parts u will having more serious damages on the p.s motor that is very costly, steering steered is becomes heavy and heavier as the fluid leaks out faster.

Need more clarification and genuine kia motor parts do consult me .

Secondly just incase if u noticed the brake fluid level always need to top up indicates theres a leak at yr brake system

• Leaks may happen via ur Master Brake Pump, where its seal had crack or worn out.
• Leaks via the front n rear calippers piston assy.
• Leaks via brake hose lines where its best to used high performance stainless steel brake hose.

3. If u come across engine temp - OVERHEATS ( 140'C and above )  mark at 'H'.

• Once tempreture rises pls stop ur car immediately.
• Rest for 30-45 min to cools down ur engine
• Open the engine oil cap to released all heats out
• Dont try to open the radiator cap when engine extreme heat.
• Inspect yr coolant level on the spare tank reservoir.
• Once the engine is cools down try to fill in water thru the radiator tank.
• Then starts the engine and drive slowly back home or workshop.
• Things to check , inspect of any leaks should be replaced at once.
• Check or replaced ur thermostat n thermo housing
• Radiator hoses upper n lower parts
• Water pump n gasket assy
• Radiator tank - clogged or leaks
• Radiator cap
• Tempreture switch sensor
• Radiator motor fan
• Air cond motor fan.
• THE MOST IMPORTANT IS IF UR CAR TEMPRETURE TOUCHES AT MARK 'H'  and UR  ENGINE SUDDENLY DEAD INDICATES THAT  UR CYLINDER HEAD GASKET IS BURNT, COOLANT ENTERS IN THE ENGINE BAY AND ALSO BENT UR CYLINDER HEAD ASSY THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED..$$$$$.

Need to gives tips n info on certain matters on how to have good maintenance on yr Spectra.

1. In case u had a broken/ slipped Timing Belt:-

• Kindly survey first the approriate workshop that really knows about Korean cars.
• Dont totally depends on mechanics to decide what to do.
• Try to identify the faulty parts and put it in a list.
• The best way to saved lots of  budget or hidden charges pls try to buy our own Genuine Parts.
• Only replaced genuine parts that are default and monitored accordingly.
• Dont ever buy Used / Reconds Parts for internal delicates parts.
• Dont try to used second hand cylinder head as it might had been tampered or being skimmed.

2. If u had a problems on brake system:-

• Try to check condition of ur disc brake pads.
• Dont used cheap brake pads made from compressed asbestos n metal.
• Go for ceramic compound brake pads.
• Always inspect or replaced pin sliders assy if had worn out.
• Check condition of ur Disc rotor of any uneven surface that caused ur brake pedal " shivers/ vibrates".
• Check ur master brake pump/ servo booster and piston calipers assy any worn out.
• Replace ur brake fluid and refill new fluid and Must do full Bleeding on ur 4 wheels.
• Always clean the Abs sensors for it to activate.

Just want to info to all Spectrans members especially the new comers, i would personally advice to keep track of yr mileage due for Timing Belts replacements.

Within this couple of weeks i had recvd feedback on three spectrans who had his Spectra Timing Belt  break. From my conversation with them indicates two  spectrans had just bought the car 2 months ago where they dosent knew any car history from the first owners. The 3 rd spectrans had his Timing belt slips due to bad tensioner bearing and all the tooth belt is completely worn out....

Again I would remind all Spectrans to replace yr belt  if u arent really sure or just bought the car.

The 3 main pillars on maintaining service should gives priority
1. Timing belt replacement includes
 a. Timing belt assy
 b. heavy duty tensioner bearing
 c. Idler pulley
 d. Oil seas 3 pcs
 e. alternator belt
 f. Air cond belt.

For mileage above 70 k km Spectrans should also replace ur waterpump assy.

2. Full flushing package on yr gearbox system

3. Install ori genuine air cond cabin filter for yr air cond system.

Faulty Parts @ Kia Spectra

Salam Spectra,

Most of faulty parts happened due to never takes seriously on service maintenance:-

As per the first photo indicates crack valves as this could leads to:-
1. Car stalling, jerking, backfire pressure, oil pressure decreased and worst still ur spectra will had engine dead once ure starting to accelerates. Must replace it at once as it will affects yr throttle body, yr  pressure hose etc.

For second picture above indicates the Most Nightmare on all Spectrans who had experienced it.... Crack cylinder head, crack piston etc etc...$$$$$$. Again I would Remind to all Spectran to keep track ur service and replacement of TIMING BELT full kit. As sometimes most spectrans never feel any symptoms on bad timing belts as most happen to faulty belt is
1. U will heard a unusual sound from ur belt section....Tensioner bearing heard like rough bearings tek..tek..tek sound, engine is so rough as it looks like a lorry engine as most complaint about it, idling is inconsistence up and down as also performamce wise is bad and very bad fuel consumptions.
Once u get this few symptoms PLEASED REPLACE UR BELTS ASAP !!... For more details kindly shared more info with me. As for this year 2012 I ve recvd about 8 spectrans with faulty Timing Belts..

For the 3rd photo indicates gasket on where most w/shop never replaced the parts ,just applying Silicone Gasket glue as where its wont last...where when the engine is in extreme hot, the silicone will crack whereby oil will leaks out. If more severe it will leaks to the plug chamber where ur plugs will be oily and car performance will declined. Pls ensures on genuine gasket used.

For the last photos shows a burnt Fused due to electric short circuit by using reconds parts mainly parts from cina which never follows the right ampheres and voltage. Mostly spectran will get the minimum faulty on fuse burnt, and the worst will had their MAIN FUSE BOX all burnt out, ALL socket 12pin to 9 pin will melt from the HARNESS WIRE that links to all the electronic parts via yr ECU,TCU, INJECTOR< etc etc...
Most feedback spectrans used RECONDS ALTERNATORS, RECONDS MOTORs for aircond and radiator, and all reconds sensors.
